Hmm. Assuming even that the dollar sign is a sticker affixed later,
that's still nine characters. When last I lived in California (19.5
years ago) vanity plates were limited to seven characters. How'd they
squeeze the extra two in and still make it readable?

Sorry, I misremembered it a bit. The guy doesn't actually have a
Hydrogen car, he has a desire for one. He got that plate # because it
was the best one left at the DMV. At least he got the atomic # right.
Thinking ahead, as is his (ability? right? privilege in a free world?).
