And yet you sure do complain enough about being deprived of a thing of
allegedly infinitesimal value.

I point out that I'm not allowed to vote, not because I want to vote,
but to show that the United States is not what it claims to be.

If I were allowed to vote, I probably wouldn't bother. Especially not
if my only choices were to vote for someone who favors torture or for
someone who wants to have me arrested for not having medical insurance.

Similarly, if California were to forbid you from ever leaving the
state, you would probably comment on that restriction, even if you had
no intention of ever leaving the state.

The United States does not claim to be a universal-franchise democracy
and never has. The word "democracy" does not mean or imply universal
franchise, and never has.

The probability of my chosing to leave California, and the value to me
of exercising that choice if I do make it, is not infinitesimal. If
California were to forbid me from ever leaving the Virgo Supercluster,
the only comments I would make would be the humorous sort.
