Despite my utter hatred of smoking I admit I am still hooked. I plan to
visit the GP in the new year and beg him for the so called miracle drug
Xyban.
I am just curious as to who else smokes of us regulars? So far I only expect
Ian Salsbury because I can't imagine a taxi driver who doesn't smoke!

Remember that Hartnell's Doctor used to smoke...do you think he quit smoking
or that it was deemed that it just wasn't a good idea for us to see the Doc
smoking on screen? Let's face it, if your lungs can re-generate you wouldn't
have the same health worries as us mere mortals. I can certainly see
Pertwee's Doc with a cigarette on one of those long sticks that Audrey
Hepburn used to utilise. Tom Baker DID smoke like a trooper. Colin's doc
SHOULD have smoked! Heavily!
McCoy's Doc probably ever only smoked JNT's bone.
Darn it...I was trying to be sensible and I couldn't resist slipping in the
anti-McCoy comment.

Please ignore it and act still as if this were a sensible thread.

Thanks

Baz

Well the 4th Doctor had a hash smoking pipe thing in the TARDIS in The
Deadly Assassin which he used to fool the Timelords into thinking he was
sitting in his chair smoking while he crept out behind them, so he probably
smoked hash.

> SHOULD have smoked! Heavily!

The 6th Doctor ate heavily, doughnuts most likely. The 2nd Doctor probably
ate curry. The 8th Doctor would have eaten spaghetti. The 9th would have
drank Guinnes. The 10th Milkshake. The 5th Cider. The 7th would have drank
real lemonade.

My point is that none of those Doctors smoked so they must have had some
other addiction.

Aha! Well in that case I guess it is of some relevance. I just didn't want
the smoking aspect of the thread destracted because of loads of irrelevant
postings about what kinds of doughnuts the sixth doctor liked and whether
they were the same ones as Homer Simpson etc etc

Not sure I agree about McGann's Doc eating Spaghetti. I presume you mean
OFTEN as I'm sure most of the Doctor's probably ate this Italian dish at
some point in their 900 (approx) years. There is no evidence for this in
either the Big Finish audio's OR the EDA novels. Please explain why you
think McGann would have preferred Spaghetti to other items of possible
ingestion?

I'm not sure Davison's Doc would have drank anything but water he was so
damn boring and sensible. I also don't get the Troughton/Curry reference?
Please explain why the cosmic hobo would have enjoyed a night out at such a
place as "The Shensha", Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire or "The Bombay
Restaurant", Magdalen Street, Norwich, Norfolk???
With companions-in-toe I certainly think Jamie would have objected.

I agree on the 9th being a Northern Guinness Drinker though...working mens
clubs spring to mind here. 4th Doc on hash is also a reasonable conclusion
which I agree with and let's face it, it WOULD help explain Horns of Nimon
and Nightmare of Eden!

Well, his wig looked like a bowel of spaghetti and you are what you eat.

He only drank it when he was in the pub which was not very often, and being
a student type he would have drank what was cheapest in terms of moat
alcohol per pound.

He was Doctor at the time that Curry started to become popular in the UK.

That is ridiculous even for you! Surely Tom Baker's hair was more like a
bowl of Spaghetti than McGann's???

Mmmm.....Curry started to become popular in the late sixties? According to
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - sorry! - I mean Wikipedia - it became
popular as early as 1953...

But the 4th Doctor smoked hash, so he didn't need to be addicted to
spaghetti.

I'm not a regular but I smoke if that's of any consolation to you.

What substance does Xyban allegedly break you of addiction?

(Does this mean you are going to stop smoking pot?)

I smoke on occasion but I am not hooked. I can smoke every day for a
week or so and then go without for months. I occassionaly smoke a
pipe too when I am feeling nostolgic, reminds me of the old man.

**** that. How's about just not buying any ****ing cigarettes?

Seems pretty easy to me.

Lock yourself in a room without cigarettes and VOILA you're instantly a
non-smoker.

If you're planning on visiting GP's and getting drugs or treatment or
patches or gum or needles shoved up your *** you don't want to stop
smoking. You just want to feel better about smoking.

If you really want to stop smoking ........... just stop.

Me too. Down to four or five cigs a day, usually of the... ahem... herbal
variety...

I have a solution for you, Bazza. If you would kindly give me all your
money, then you would not be able to buy tobacco products anymore. :-)

What substance does Xyban allegedly break you of addiction?

(Does this mean you are going to stop smoking pot?)

I think it can be used for a number of addictions but I hope just to give up
cigarettes. Granted I may have to cease smoking weed as well which is rather
a shame.

Sadly that wouldn't work. I would just end up picking up dog-ends from the
gutter like a tramp and smoking those. I know this to be true as last night
I ran out of cigarettes and so went through the contents of an ash-tray for
stubs left over from Christmas Day.
I have tried just not buying them. It doesn't work. Someone will either
offer me one and I find I cant resist it or some disaster will occur in my
life where my will power just crumbles.

Which would you have:
* An episode with McCoy reprising his role of the 7th Doctor
cancelled due to unions strike
* Having your next cigarette

If you have the cigarette, McCoy reprises the role - you choose

Would that help you give up?

Well you can now! I`ve never smoked ( other than the occasional joint in my
younger years ). Back in my teens I couldn`t see the appeal. I was obsessed
with music and wanted every spare pound to go on new records. I`d also
hassled my parents to quite smoking when I was a nipper and would have felt
something of a hypocrite if I`d started later on.

Being a smoking cabbie is a right pain in the arse now I would imagine, it`s
illegal to even smoke in your own car.
