He's sure. He's also wrong, but that's his problem, not mine. :P
Completely lose interest is an exaggeration he gets from taking my words
literally, a thing I've been known to do myself. :P

People laugh at her because she's an idiot.

Indeed, but it's actually quite sad now that I think about it.
A couple of decades ago, the only people on usenet were students, most
people not having a computer at home and, if they did, they had no
internet connection. Discussion was relatively civil back then: it
wasn't possible for anybody on the net to be a complete moron. The
worst case scenario was that a poster was a freshman straight out of
high school who didn't have a clue about netiquette. Later we had
people posting from work but they were still relatively educated
people, not people coming off the street into internet cafes or using
their spouse's computer at home.
Then the "AOLers" showed up and people warned about the "dumbing down
of the net". Really, though, the AOLers wren't complete morons, just
people who weren't as educated as those who had been posting in years
past. They were, after all, still relatively educated people, or at
least people sophisticated enough to own and operate a computer.
Still, many considered the fact that the internet had opened up to the
general public to be the beginning of the end, so to speak.
Nowadays, just about everybody has a computer at home and everyone who
does either has or is getting internet access, the result being that
even complete morons are able to post to usenet. On the face of it,
this would seem to be a good thing as the people on the net are still
more likely to be educated than the average person they'd be likely to
meet and this gives these morons an opportunity to actually learn
something they might not otherwise learn.
Alas, it doesn't seem to work that way: the dumber a person is, the
less likely they are to appreciate somebody telling them how it is and
the more likely they are to simply ignore what people are telling
them. Instead of people coming on to the internet and learning from
people with actual educations, we get people with little or no
education coming on and pretending they are some kind of expert about
everything when in reality they clearly know little about anything.
So the dreaded "dumbing down of the net" has come to pass. It's as
though the trolls of yesteryear have taken over and are now ridiculing
anybody who actually has a clue.

How did a discussion of the merits of boobies get to this point?

An e-mail has been sent to abuse@cableone.net. They have already
replied and requested headers from the objectionable messages. It
shouldn't be long before action is taken against this troll.

I'd like to thank him for letting me know, as I will be calling my provider
tomorrow to see if he's telling the truth, and to find out how to file a
complaint against him for not staying out of my e-mail despite repeated
requests to do so.

He better remember that he started in - in *MY* e-mail. Perhaps he thinks
I've forgotten that, but he's mistaken. He wanted to name-call, so he got
name called back. If he wants to grow up, he can. In the meantime, I give
more than I get, and if he doesn't like it, he can stop it any time by
staying the hell out of my e-mail.
I might add that if what's happened between us meets his definition of
abuse, he's led a very sheltered life.
