View Full Version : Ship shields are the weakest shields in the universe
Ever notice how every forcefield in Trek universe is indestructible except
for the ship's shields, which is eminently, painfully destructible?
Whenever a 'superior being' or a doorway or a thing of interest is protected
by a shield, it's indestructible!

You've got that right. Understandable for the ship in Enterprise, first of
it's kind, only polarized hull plating to shield them, but all the others
are mostly worthless. Two direct hits and their shields are down.

The energy in a ship's weaponry is MUCH greater than anything
hand-held, and there's probably a limit to how efficient a force field
/ shield can be made to be.

yes, that's waht I was thinking. The forcefield protecting doorways may not
be so indestructible if you wanted to actually call down the ships phasers
on them! Problem is, just a wee bit o collateral damage.

It is not that the doorway forcefields are "indestructible", it is that the
attacks against them versus the generators used is but a small percentage of
the generator's duty cycle ability.
Benjamin Pavsner 01-31-2008, 09:20 PM Here's the thing: a brig is usually used to hold either a human or some sort
of carbon based lifeform, which really can't take the type of shock that a
forcefield would give. A ship's shield, on the other has to repel phaser or
photon fire, which packs a great wallup than your average human/carbon based
lifeform punch.
