Ken from Chicago 02-02-2008, 04:38 AM A scientist becomes irrationally attached to his creation. Who loves scifi
that couldn't have seen that coming light years away? You don't trust the
mad scientist, at least not too much.
Ironically the STARGATE ATLANTIS reversed the two partners Sheppard should
have had in the past two episodes. Ronan would have been much better on the
medieval world tracking some ancient ruins, dealing with mythical beasts and
genii mercs while McKay would have been much better at tracking a
replicator, cracking files, deactivating a replicator and getting into the
mind of another scientist--especially with his love of scifi.
-- Ken from Chicago
P.S. Of course they could both have stood to watch KYLE XY to have
considered the possiblity of "Jessie XX".

So now we have two cute brunette female human replicators for you to
long for. :)
Love how the end was blantantly ripped off from ST-TNG and Moriarity.

Eh, Fran was nicer. That other one, too cold, like a shell-shocked
(Wini)Fred or River (Tam). Fran had more (nice) personality.

Ugh.
Btw, Dylan Neal's been getting around the cable nets lately, Lifetime, USA
now Sci Fi.

But you would have expected that! This seemed more like a 'fish out of
water' situation, with characters forced to do things they don't
normally do. (and it's Ronon, not Ronan).
Also, don't you think McKay is a better foil for a child, and the
unlikely hero? (Remember the painting at the end?)

The writers seem to rather enjoy throwing Ronan into "fish out of water"
situations. I kind of enjoy seeing Ronan "dressed up", personally.... LOL It
was nice to have Dr. Lee come back and actually be useful, rather than
dithering around and then throwing up his hands and saying that either
Daniel or Sam had to take over.... I guess that's why they kept him on the
payroll - he actually IS useful, eh?
Rodney? With kids? He is perpetually funny..... and he will always be the
unlikely hero.
It is nice to see the writers finally developing some sort of back story for
Sheppard. I had completely forgotten he had a family back home.
Still waiting to see Sam do anything other than "walk ons".... What was the
point in bringing her over from the SGC again? Is she even going to go on
any missions? Did she join SGA so she could just wear a pony-tail?
weird....

Ah but Ronon vs kid woulda been kewl, plus having him show up Sheppard.

Which is probably why McKay wasn't there; he wouldn't have
been able to restrain himself from remarking on it.
And, like Moriarty in TNG (as Gharlane was so fond of
ranting about) they wasted a sterling opportunity (as
opposed to a golden opportunity) to introdce a new character
to the show.
Make her part of Sheppard's team, for cripes sake!

It sounded like she'll be back, so no worries! :-)
Chris Schumacher 02-02-2008, 02:38 PM I wonder how thick the writers are...
That scene with Sheppard's brother, where he sees that Sheppard brought
ronon along. That was just SCREAMING for his brother to say: "So, don't
ask, don't tell, huh?"
Then for the rest of the episode, Ronon would keep badgering Sheppard to
find out what the phrase meant.
But, NOOOOOOO, we get that lame thing with the will.
They also could have played with the fact that we know almost nothing of
Sheppard's background (back in Home, he played around with the
simulation so we had no idea what things were really like for him back
home). Having Ronon say something like "I didn't know you even had any
family" would have been nice.
There does seem to have been some attempt to mirror the relationship
between Shepard and his father with that of the rogue replicator and his
creator--but again, the writers seem to have missed it.

Yes I thought that as well. Another poor episode I thought. I've almost
given up waiting for a decent episode to appear. Hey Amanda Tapping actually
had some lines this week!!! Well well well.
Condirering they could track ther replicator at the start why didn't they
just beam him up then? And if they couldn't do that, a beaming tag fired
from a gun would have done the job.
Oh and yet again, no offence but the scientist said if you hit the
replicator hard enough with ammunition he will be killed, so why not use a
grenade launcher? hitting it with crappy 9mm rounds will do nothing. Oh and
Shephards pump action shot gun was pointless.
When O'Neill was beamed aboard Thor's ship in Nemasis O'Neill had a ****
load of heavy fire power.
I just think the episodes are being churned out as cheaply as possible and
it shows.

It started quite well - Sam was there, they threw in a nice continuity
moment with the kids' planet story line, we got some background on Flyboy
and then bam! - replicators. Again! And you can bet, with RepliWeir out
there, there will be more of them before the season is finished.

She's a security risk. They kicked Weir off because she was PART replicator.
That said, she could have been virtual teammate, maybe even a hologram.

If I recall the sensors on the Apollo could only narrow the search down
to a four block radius. So that wasn't accurate enough to beam him up.

At that range the grenades blast would kill our heroes as well as
hopefully the replicator.

O'Neill's "**** load of heavy fire power" consisted of 12 gage shotguns,
5.56x45 mm M-16A4's and 9x19 mm H&K MP-5 submachine guns. Pretty much
what the search party was armed with in this episode.

shooting on location Amanda, David, and Jennifer were back on the sound

At what range? you don't fire a grenade launcher at someone 12 feet away,
but they were chasing him around a dockyard or were you not watching?
There wsa obviously a continuity error then as they were able to track him
moving and if you remember in one episode of SG1 they beamed a whole
building into space, so they could have easily beamed a building he was in
away.

Actually O'Neill had a SPAS-12 which is a semi automatic shotgun and they
had a USAS -12 which is a mean piece of kit. Carter had the M4. None of
them used MP5's in that episode.

Not really. There was a lot of location work in this episode and (Earth
or not) that's a lot more expensive than shooting it on the Atlantis
sets that are already built. And let's face it, even when they aren't on
Earth, they're still on Earth. Those alien planets they visit aren't
really other planets. They're Canadian forests.

Nobody saw that most of this episode was a rip off from Terminator
(and even, a rip off from SCC - we even have the girl terminator who
can fake human interactions) ?
After copying all its scenarios from past scifi productions, then
recycling its own old scenarios, now Stargate steal from series
broadcasted at the same time that it ?!?!

Yes and as I've said far too many episodes are set in forests as well. There
just seems to be a lack of imagination. Space episodes often require a lot
of CGI to go with them, so I'm guessing that they have made cuts there.
This series looks cheap compared to others.

They start writing new episodes very soon after they finish filming a
season, so you could argue that this episode might have been written as long
as a year ago (since the filming usually starts in February). I would say
this is more of a coincidence than a rip-off.

Oh, sure, they were blatantly doing TERMINATOR when they were shooting

That was one of the things I liked. The whole humanform replicator idea is,
if not a ripoff, at least inspired by terminators. Playing it up is fine.
I think this was the best show this season. They even fooled me at the end,
with the virtual prison cell.
For some reason, maybe they spoiled it in the previews, I knew little
chickie was a replicator.
I was just waiting the whole show for them to catch on.

Besides. It's not about replicators any more. It's about handing dangerous
technology to educated idiots.

The replicators were overdone in SG1. They got tiresome about the time
that Repli-Carter was introduced. SGA has (as usual) just made them that
much more irritating.
It's time for all these writers and creative staff to be fired. There
really needs to be an infusion of innovation into the series - they are
too stuck on the same plots and enemies.

Yes, they are the missing race. I personally preferred it when the
"Ancients" were just history, there was a bit of mystery to them. Probably
the same with the Asgard. The writers had to get rid of them (rather badly
done in my view) as they would always be a potential plot spoiler.
Would have been nice to see a bit more of the Nox (that bird that Daniel
fancied was hot) as well.
The ealr yseries of SG1 gave them so many opportunities, in Atlantis they've
really messed it up I think. Kill off the Replicator stories and kill off
the Wraith (or at least cut them back in the shows) and perhaps bring a
little mystery into the show. Perhaps the Pegaus galaxy has some back
history as well they could exploit. Problem is they've dropped no hints yet.

I have some fun speculation about what the Furlings could be like, meeting
them and sorting out what is really going on would be a couple seasons worth
of story ;-)
I also miss the Nox.

That's why I always turn off the TV before they can show a preview. I
did NOT know in advance she was a replicator because I had avoided the
preview. The ending was also a bit of a surprise. I prefer it that way.

And whilst I'm in a whinging mood why in Stargate do the space ships act
like old fashioned sailing ships when they fight? They park a couple of
miles away from each other and fire broadsides. OK the Wraith Hive ships
don't look that manoeuvrable, but the Earth ships should be able to make hit
and run passes.
It just looks so crap.

They don't seem that close to me but I may have missed some bonding scenes.

Tne Furlings:An advanced race of beings that look like us (despite Jacks
jokes to the contrary) but speak a very different language. They are
technologically maxed out, with weapons similar to the most powerful Asgard
beams and Lantean drones, as well as advanced power sources and shields. They
have tremendous life spans and there is no disease on their homeworlds, and
there is no such thing as poverty or wealth. The big and unusual difference
is they are a race totally run and ruled by complete bureaucracy. The inital
treaty with the Asgard, the Nox, and the Ancients took 700 years, as after
the very first meeting of these beings with others, the team meeting them
had to go back to be second-guessed and questioned, and those doing the
guessing and questioning also questioned and second-guessed. to the point
that decades later it was still being argued in their courts wether or not
the clothing worn by the initial contactees was appropriate. As odd as this
sounds, it keeps them at a perfect equilibirum, as they know that if they
didnt live this way, they would spread out and rule the known universe. This
behavior itself is based on millions of years of constant second-guessing
and internal refelction. They keep themselves isolated to maintain this
equilibrium. One of the main technological advances is the ability to "blip",
or "blipping", able to instantly transport matter or ships short distances
in nanoseconds. You could fire a laser weapon at one of their ships and it
would appear on the other side of yours instantly, destroying your ship
(although they do not fight, they pride themselves on perfect military
displays, all argued about for years down to the tone of the voice of the
officers giving commands)They have technology all over that does similar
things.
http://www.gateworld.net/sg1/s6/615.shtml
However when the team finally meets them, they are engaged in a real civil
war.Now that they have met, they and every race associated with the team are
now dragged into a war to the finish, with no side as the right side to
fight on.The Furlings are now an enemy.
Anyway, no, they werent killed off in episode 200.
;-) Any other questions?

They work and play together pretty much 24/7, and it's not like either
of them has a lot of OTHER friends.

IOW SG2. But if that's the direction they're going, why cancel SG1? The
problem still is that the underlying or overarcing reason for the show is
.... un- or ill-defined, other than SG1 was profitable so let's make more.
Making a spin-off isn't inherently a bad thing. You just need a better
setup--and followthru:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.tv.stargate-atlantis/msg/8be6a9f6edadc5e3
That said, I like the idea of making Pegasus more mysterious. So far,
they've travelled millions of light-ye-er, thousands of light-years to find
more medieval worlds and reignited a war millennia in the making. The
problem so far is that SGA has painted itself into a corner in that they've
shown the past in the uberpowerful Ancients and shown the future with the
Ascended.

It was a reference to the most (intentionally) humorous Trek film.
Plus, while I was thinking of the closest galaxy to us (other than our own),
it's right both ways.
