View Full Version : Wraith questions?
Not exactly a spoiler, but I need to seriously ask. Why do they go down
faster than a Jaffa in useless armour? Wasn't the biggest concern over
these vampires, that as quickly as you put them down, they came right back
to life? Or was that only their henchmen? At what point did they die with a
bullet so quickly?
Next question... how do 2 guys with one weapon each so easily take down
50 armed bad guys in a confined space, without so much as a scratch?

It's because they're both titular characters with a penchant for killing
things.
In many ways, this was a valentine to fans. They dealt with questions like
"Who would win in a fight, Ronen or Tealc?" and "What happens when you zat a
wraith?"
On the commercials, I got the impression that this was going to be a
continuation of the heavily character focused episodes we've seen recently,
focusing on Ronen and to a lesser extent Tealc. What we got was basically
"Boys' Night Out." It was enjoyable, and the requisite number of things
going boom reminded me of some of the SG-1 episodes, but I hope that now
Carter, Keller, and Taela get their time in the sun now to balance things
out. Looks like next week at least Taela will get her spotlight if nothing
else.
But Ronen and Tealc killed all the wraith because that's what they do.
They're the bricks in the teams.
The little comment about Tealc saying "Indeed" a lot was great, and Ronen's
echoing of it afterward was a nice touch.

I'd like to say that SGC, at least on Atlantis, went to explosive rounds for
Wraith, but the real answer may be "they just don't make Wraith like they
used to."

'Cause they're the BadassMofo's. And all the bad guys were slipping around
in the grease from Tea'lc's hair.
I thought Roan's hostility was a little forced, but it was nice to see them
get it on.
And I really liked the "indeed" thing.
And Ronan greeting weasalboy in the jumper.

Speaking of Jaffa...Where do they come off with this "honor" bullshit?
At best, they were overseers of slave plantations, that specialised in
terrorising and murdering unarmed civilians.
Occasionally, they'd get together and have slap fights with each other, but
not often.
We've seen academics with no combat training regularly beat the crap out of
any number of them.
And you're right. Why bother with that stupid armor that don't stop nothing?
Almost as bad as the Star wars stormtroopers armor that didn't even stop a
punch.

That is a constant problem in Hollyweird. They make these "invincible"
enemies, and then either have to invent some way to beat them (usually
when they've outlived their usefulness to the storyliens) or just dumb
them down and hope the viewers don't notice. :-(

Well in SGA the "excuse" seems to be that if a Wraith has "fed" recently it
takes alot more to kill it than say if it hasn't fed for along time.
However, I still don't get why they seem to pump endless bullets into the
torso of these things using crap 9mm pistols and the water pistol called the
P90? Shooting a Wraith in the head would do a lot more damage and using dum
dum bullets would cause a lot more internal damage reducing their abilty to
regenerate as would a heavier caibre bullet.
At least in Midway we saw that a Zat will take them out with one shot, so
why not give everyone on Atlantis a zat?

The P90 completely changes its effectiveness depending on which type of SS
round it's using. The SS190 round can punch thru any armour (48 layers of
kevlar at 200m) without a problem but on lightly or non-armoured targets, it
goes thru with practically no stopping power. The slower SS195 has less
penetration but tumbles internally on impact, putting down even the heaviest
target on pcp, especially if hit by multiple rounds. The SS193 is also
useful for firing in enclosed spaces as it has little richochet or
collateral damage other than the target and ideal for CQB or populated
areas.
The P90 is not 'a water pistol' but a versatile system intended for high
energy, short-range engagement by compromising mid-long range effectiveness.
Thats the reason the Secret Service adopted it as well as mutiple SWAT
teams, french anti-terrorist etc.

Yep. It's not a "water pistol", it's a "Super Soaker". ;-)

Nicole.... you are very easy to please. Still no answer as to why they
used to come back to life, and now just go down with plain old bullets? If
the zat is such a cool and wonderful weapon, why in hell doesn't everyone
use one? Lightweight, and never needs reloading. You'd think that Carter
would have figured out how to make an even better one after 10 years? And I
repeat.... 2 guys taking down a small army with 2 rifles is a bit much don't
ya think? Would have loved to see the 2 guys in a more challenging scene.

When you are familiar with your surroundings, you know all the turns and

Yeah one was at Midway once for 5 minutes, the other never. As for SG
command, old dredlocks was really familiar with it based on what?

I agree that the Wraith are a LOT easier to kill than they were
originally. So much so that the Wraith just don't seem like such a
threat anymore.
But, the confined space IS the reason that Ronon and Teal'c were
victorious. Being in the confined hallways allows you to encounter
the enemy two or three at a time and their weapons were more
appropriate than the long Wraith blasters (what are those called?).
In such a confined space would you rather have a zat or a staff
weapon? Plus, we already know both of them are superior soldiers
among they're respective races. Had they been in a clearing such as
where the Wraith were working on the DHD then they would have been on
the run and likely been killed or captured.

Well obviousely the corridors were designed similar to that of the earth
ships. so it would be expected that it would have similar nooks and crannies
that they would be familiar with. Also Ronan and Tealc would know the command
codes to lock doors, open hatches, seal airlocks. The raith would not know any
of these things.
