I wonder who would have played Caleb on BtVS, Jasmine on Angel and Hamilton
on Angel (if he was even an idea yet). Did JW have other actors already
lined up to play these roles before the demise of Firefly? If yes, who?

My limited understanding (from reading these newsgroups) is that the parts
were only written at the last minute to compensate both actors for the loss
of the series. Put another way, had Firefly not been canceled, those
particular characters would never have been created.

There might have been some tuning to match the actors, but Buffy and
Angel have nearly always had a major antagonist each season.

On the audio commentary for "Underneath," Elizabeth and Sarah (the
writers for that episode) are talking about how they were
brainstorming a new liason character. They were imagining a very
diminutive, waifish female, and when they mentioned it to Joss, he
said "you know, I was kinda thinking Adam Baldwin." Everything
clicked as far as character creation after that.
