View Full Version : Once more with feeling
audiothor 02-19-2008, 04:47 PM I must confess that I've never really been into Buffy but when my daughter told me there was an episode done as a musical, I didn't believe her.
Well, I've just sat through THAT episode and I was quite impressed.
My question is.... How was this episode received by the fan base?
Did it make you cringe or was it a fun extra to the Buffy universe before the series ended?
I've also got the chance to borrow some DVD's but don't have the time to watch them all so... Are there any other episodes that you think would convert a Buffy cynic to a fan - ones that really stand out?
I'm sorry if this is old news to you guys but cut a newcomer to Buffy some slack... I'd really like to know. :)
angelamia 02-22-2008, 06:08 PM I personally enjoyed the episode, but it was by no means near the top of the crop. Buffy is my favorite show of all time, but as far as telling you where to start, I'm not sure. I started watching at season 2 and I love all the Buffy/Angel stuff. I love the episode later in the series where a spell Willow does to make her girlfriend forget a fight they had makes everyone forget who they are. I'm not sure if it would be as funny to you if you don't know the characters though. I'm trying to think really hard, but you really should just watch them all, haha... You won't regret it.
angelamia 02-22-2008, 06:13 PM I enjoyed once more with feeling but it certainly isnt up to par with other episodes
I thought i replied to this but now i don't see my reply... anyway... I had written that i wasn't sure but you should watch them all! Then I thought about it,
Definitely watch Hush. There is about 30 minutes or something like that in the episode.. It's genius.
There are also two good halloween episodes. One where everyone turns into their costumes, this is early in the series, and another where they go through a haunted frat party house. The ending is hilarious!
Also good is the one where willow does a spell to make her girlfriend forget a fight they had, but ends up making everyone forget who they are. This one is especially funny, but if you dont know the characters well you might not entirely get it.
audiothor 03-10-2008, 05:11 PM Thanks angelamia,
I will certainly look up the 'Hush' episode and I think there was a reference to the spell to forget a fight in 'Once more with feeling' so I'll try and find that one.
One day, when time allows, I'm going to see the whole thing, all the series, from beginning to end.
It may be a little after everyone ese but I've really clicked on what makes it so popular.
Better late than never I guess.
Benjamin Pavsner 03-10-2008, 08:38 PM What surprises me is, given the talent for writing dialog in the Mutant
Enemyverse, that "Hush" is probably the best ep. of season four, if not the
whole series. I think either Nick Brendon or James Marsters has gone on
record as saying that "Hush" was their favorite episode because it really
streatched their acting abilities.

They all did an amazing job on that one. If I had to pick one, I think I'd
choose "Hush" as my favorite episode. Delightfully scary, and it had some
great laughs as well, like the scene where Buffy "tells" the Scoobies that
she'll masturbate the Gentlemen into quiescence and then stake them.
Hilarious!

After leaving a gap of a year since my last run through I've now got the
Season 1 DVD collection off the shelf and I'm going to watch the lot
right through again. I alternate them with Angel once that kicks in as I
find the threads then follow on more sensibly.
It's amazing that as soon as Giles walks down the stairs in the library
giving his "into every generation......." speech I get hooked all over
again. Charisma with her quips.. "I must call everyone I know, right
now" also gets the nostalgia going.
I still think they'd get away with a remake. Get some new talented 19-21
year old and rework the whole lot.

audiothor 03-11-2008, 04:07 PM :):)This is Charlotte writing! (Audiothor guy's Buffy-mad daughter!)
It's fab 2 see so many awesome replies about Buffy it's my fave program ever! I was the one who tried to convert my dad by sitting him down to watch O.M.W.F so thanks for helping me convince him! :D:D
I loved Tabula Rasa it was so funny when Spike thought he was called Randy and was Giles's son!!! I liked it when Willow was talking to Dawn and she said "... and I think I'm kinda gay!" I love Willow's hair in this ep as well!! :)
I reckon Hush was one of the scariest ones! I loved the slideshow Giles did to show the bad guys ripping people's hearts out!! The flashcards he did for Chao Ahn in season 7 were brill too. I say MORE OF GILES'S FUNNY DRAWINGS!!
The best moment in Once more with feeling is probably the bunny song. I love Anya! And Emma Caulfield is a fab commedienne!! :):D:)
But I think my ultimate fave ep is Witch, the third ep in season 1!! Me and my mates have now officially adopted,
"Macho, macho man!" as our theme tune!!:cool:
Keep the replies coming!!! xxx Charlotte!! xxx

Too soon I'd say.
Maybe somewhere after the year 2036.

I don't think it would ever work without Joss and I seriously doubt he would want to redo
it. Especially since the original is so great and IMO can totally stand the test of time.
