View Full Version : TV Guide article about new post strike episodes!

TV Guide had an article about the new episodes of the network and cable
shows that were affected by the strike. They have hit the ground running
gettting the shows back in production and on average each show will get
about six new episodes to complete the season. The article appears tin
the February 25-March 2 2008 starting on page 9.

"Smallville": There will be five new episodes of Smallville" that could
begin as early as April '08! This is in addition to the three remaining
we knew about for a total of eight more eps to go starting March 13.

"Heroes": There will be no new episodes this season, BUT as TV guide puts
it:

"No new shows until fall-when fans will get treated to a supersize season
with more than 22 episodes!"

"Lost" will have a "full" 13 episode season.

"Law & Order: SVU" Five more episodes Starting April 15 including one in
which Benson goes to prison on an undercover assignment.

"ER" Six more episodes staring April 10.

Unfortunately-for me anyway-TV Guide says essentially that these shows
are all but dead:

"Bionic Woman", "Cane", "Journeyman".

I am especially sad to see that Journeyman is going, after that "Bionic
Woman" and that anti-hero show that I at least found interesting to watch
even if it isn't "must see TV", "Cane".

On the other hand "Life" is coming back to life!

So there you go!

week is a rerun

Its a 16 episode season show why, only 15 and not 22, maybe the cost
such a big cast

Me too but Bionic went too far away from it's source, Loved JM with the
time travel story line & Dan Craig lookalike. Cane was a bit much

The producers of LOST made a deal for a total of six seasons. We have seen
three already and the remaining three will be sixteen episodes each. Each
season will be shown in February of 2008, 2009, 2010. The strike got them
behind schedule, so it would seem from this article that we will get
thirteen episodes this season instead of the original sixteen. That's not to
bad at all in my opinion considering the strike.

The article basically skimmed highlights from the site listed below,
which gets updated as more information comes in....

You realize, don't you, that this information has been posted in
various TV-related websites (including tvguide.com) over the past
couple of weeks?

This is why the print magazine has become useless.

What part of "starting March 13" is unclear? The three pre-strike eps
are airing on the 13th, the 20th, and the 27th. Then more repeats,
then the final five starting on April 17th.

The show was originally planned for five 24-episode seasons. After
all the scheduling hassles during Season 3 (the fans didn't like
new eps being interspersed with repeats, nor did they like long
gaps in the middle of the season), ABC and the producers decided
to change the last two 24-ep seasons into 3 16-ep seasons, with
each season airing in a single run.

Only 8 episodes got written before the strike, and they don't have
time to write and shoot another 8, so they're doing only 5 more,
for a total of 13. They might make this up by extending next season
to 19 eps.

I didn't look to see if this subject was on any website, I got the
hardcopy TV Guide in the mail saw the article and thought it would be a
good subject to post about who would like to know about the shows that I
also happen to like.

Anyway, can you post the links?

And all of the press releases posted at The Futon Critic:

http://www.thefutoncritic.com/home.aspx

These are the two major ones.

The reason I said "this is why the print magazine has become
useless" is because the lead time for it is such that virtually
by the time it hits the stands, the information is obsolete.
The networks change their schedules so quickly, you couldn't
really trust that anything that was listed in the print edition
of TVG (back when it had listings) was accurate.

According to a New York Times article from last week (Feb 14) CI was
planning several new episodes:

In New York, Warren Leight, the show runner on "Law & Order: Criminal
Intent," was tucking into a delivered lunch along with a bustling
office filled with writers, producers and researchers. The "Criminal
Intent" crew had no scripts banked when work stopped on Nov. 5, so on
Wednesday they were just beginning to map out story lines for the next
five episodes.

"It's like putting a harness back on," he said. "Actually, like
putting 10 harnesses back on."

Lost has writers? wow i thought they just pulled each episode out of
their asses... or so it would seem with all the dead end plot twists and
the fact that it doesnt make any sense if you miss an episode...

it kind of reminded me of trying to watch transformers a couple of years
ago... every two seconds the plot and screen was shifting... i would
have to be on meth or something to keep up. it made no damn sense...
lost left me feeling the same way.

I remember back in the 70's 26 episodes being the norm. Then it was 24
episodes in the '80s and '90s IIRC. I hear back in the 50's and early
60's a show season could have up to 30 episodes! I guess it is the rising
production cost responsible for he decline. Just a guess.

26, or at least 24, was the best. That way they could run a full season
without repeats, then repeat the entire season in one run. That way, if you
missed a show the first time around you could catch it the second. It made
it a lot easier to follow favorite shows. There were a lot of shows that
became classics because it allowed people to check them out.

But that was back before the VCR allowed one to tape one show and watch
another.

I remember watching the reruns during the summer, hoping my favorite episodes might be shown,
since three months wasn't enough time to show them all again.

No, NO gas was already 30 something cents a gal.

I remember you could get a slice of choc. covered HALAVAH for 3 cents
You only had small bottles of COKE 8OZs I think, PEPSI 12 OZs, and 7UP
was only 7 1/2 OZs. ten cents each, when you give back the bottle you
got 2 cents back and so they only cost 8 cents.
Sometime if 8 cents was all I had the store lady (whos sister was also
my landlord), would let me have it.
Pizza 15 cents a slice and yet one store on Sutter Ave in Brooklyn was
already charging 20 cents.
I think I better stop now

I started driving in 1958 and gas was never under $0.25/gallon in the
southern New England area (although perhaps you were just making up
numbers).

Nope, it depends on what part of the country you're in. As late as 1971
I could get gas for about a quarter/gallon in Boise Idaho. You probably
had higher gas taxes there.

Look at gas prices now - there's a lot of variation in them even in the
same state.

The baby that Kate had with her in the future was Claire's son, Aaron.

As to the others....who said they had a choice in leaving?

Time will tell....
