For the same reasons 'regular' vampires don't. Humans are tastier.

(at least that's the theory I'm going with. At the moment.)

I have a vague recollection (which may be completely wrong) that they
can feed on other living things, but that humans are a much better food
.... or maybe it's just like having a choice between eating Brussel
Sprouts or Chocolate / Strawberry Pudding. ;-)

Don't know why, but they tried it with 'Bob' and it didn't work. He was the
Wraith that beat the **** out of Bates and who the Hoff experimented on.

IIRC from the first season, it was explained that the "life force" of a
sentient being (ie, Human) is more "nutritious". IOW, cows, etc, don't
provide enough energy.

The crime rate plummeted, but the Wraith still had to be fed, so they
convicted almost everyone for the smallest of offensives or on trumped up
charges. Needless to say, the people could have used an ACLU.

That was the point. Everything that is living has a "life force", it's

Like the Simes (people with tentacles on their arms) of the Sime/Gen series,
who live on selyn that they extract from Gens (people without tentacles),
usually Killing the Gen. However, duel selyn system Simes known as
"channels" can extract selyn safely from Gens and transfer it into other
Simes. The Wraith need to develop their own version of channels.

Why couldn't a Wraith "eat" several animals to get enough life force to match
what he would get from a human? Why not genetically engineer animals to
increase their life force?

Like the Simes (people with tentacles on their arms) of the Sime/Gen
series,
who live on selyn that they extract from Gens (people without
tentacles),
usually Killing the Gen. However, duel selyn system Simes known as
"channels" can extract selyn safely from Gens and transfer it into other
Simes. The Wraith need to develop their own version of channels, who
would safely extract life force from humans and transfer it to Wraith.
