View Full Version : Mr. Monk Goes to Las Vegas (Feb 18 2005)
Richard Fangnail 02-19-2005, 03:26 PM I thought this episode was just okay. I could hardly believe the rich
guy thought that people wouldn't realize that wasn't really his wife.
This tactic has been used before in Monk and the Airplane, and even the
Columbo pilot with Gene Barry.
Disher has been kind of dumb but this time he was a little too dumb. A
lot of people think you can be successful at gambling by reading a book
but is Disher really that foolish?
Natalie was on Dennis Miller for just a few minutes right before Monk
was on. She's in the film Son of the Mask.

I have to say, I enjoyed more than the others - didn't seem to have the
gaping plot flaws that the first ones of this season have had.

Maybe he knew no one would say anything even if they did because his affair
was known, and he "owned this town".
I missed the very beginning though so I didn't see how much the two looked
alike, if at all.

A little far-fetched - but with the current Texas hold'em and poker fads
going on, I could buy into it for the show.

I thought the pulley thing in the elevator was a little silly, but other
than that, the rest of the plot was plausible. Monk "remembering" the cards
was a typical Monk trait. I think now though were on the "how many different
ways can we do the reveal" trail!
I did think the Natalie refusing to put the scarf on and the way they cut it
to finally seeing Monk on was well done and funny. 1st season laughs. Of
course you know the elevator would get activated, but that's OK.

susiefrog51@hotmail.com 02-19-2005, 11:37 PM I liked it when Monk came out of the elevator and tried to talk. I
replayed that about 5 times.. He cracks me up!

Steven M. Santinelli 02-20-2005, 08:41 PM The only thing I really didn't like from the episode, was the rich guy
(Can't remember his real name) was trying to sound like he was rich, but he
sounded like an idiot. Which, is really too bad, because he has a good
voice.
And I'm really loving how Nat is really taking charge, and how we got to see
a bit of her history...
As for reading the book, he certainly isn't the first or last. I actually
liked that they did that. Because that is something he'd definately do.

I thought this episode (which I finally caught tonight, eight days
later) was terrific. It managed to catch what made the early Monk
shows work. Good mystery, well worked out. Also, Monk's
eccentricities were endearing and not annoying, which I think is very
important. The gambling sequence
In a lesser episode, I would have been all over James Brolin's
bizarrely inept performance, but he gets a pass this time. I might
have enjoyed it more if he'd played it with the Reagan makeup and
voice, just for yocks.

Geez! I thought it was pretty obvious that James Brolin was doing an
imitation of Donald Trump (a big clue: the character's name had the
same "D.T." initals). A caricature, yes, but I thought Brolin's lampoon
of Trump added to the fun (incidentally, It thought it was the best
post-Sharona episode).

Okay, I didn't get it. However, I still think it would have been
funnier if Brolin had done it as Reagan.
Steven M. Santinelli 03-01-2005, 07:49 AM Ok, SO, I don't watch the apprentice, and could care LESS what Trump does...
If that was who he was trying to be, he did... Ok. I live in NH, I could
care what really goes on in the world of Trump.
Now, if he tried to be Gates, I'd know who he was RIGHT away... :^)
