Would you rent such a large office for a schoolboard election?

Why did the killer try to kill monk and/or Natalie with the grenade?
Why didn't he go to the office to pry open the copy machine?

Well, jeez... Natalie's Cute remember? She gets what she wants! :^)

Yeah... She used to be so cute when she was on 2 guys and a girl, but she
has really turned into a wonderful woman. :^) I'm really enjoying her on
the show. And it's the little things too, like how she just reached over
and grabbed Monk's coat, to get him to go with her.

The SAD part of course, is I read the spoiler about the outcome of the
election, 5 minutes before I saw the end (I watched it this afternoon on
DVR).

You knew she was going to lose the election because Monk mentioned if
she won the election she would no longer be able to work for him.

The writing has gone way down hill, every episode is way too predictable. I
liked it better when it seemed so impossible to solve, and monk would just
find clue after clue to piece it together, now he finds one thing, ok maybe
two and peices the whole thing together from that!
Now that is the impossible thing !

Of course not -- nor would it get any TV coverage.

The mystery was soooo stupid. Jeez, it's a political operation run and
staffed by amateurs. The copy machine doesn't work. All the guy had
to do was show up, say he was from the copy machine repair place
"somebody" called, and "fix" the machine. No one would have stopped
him. Instead they have him shooting up the place and killng a guy.
Ridiculous.

Plus, I saw the misspelled name on the sign right off. I told my wife,
"That's going to be the gimmick." Since they went out of their way to
say the machine's primary flibbertyjibbet was jammed, I knew that
whoever it was had to be after the piece of paper jammed inside the
machine. Yawwwwn.

The Monk stuff was generally very good (straightening the grenade was
really, really stupid, though) and Traylor Howard is working out well.
She's won me over.

I enjoyed this episode, but it did have one of my major complaints - how is
it that things always seem to happen to the characters in shows like this?
It could have been anybody and the plot would work. It gets a little
unrealistic when everything always happens to the main characters (not that
there aren't other unrealistic things, but those are supposed to be
comedic).

I thought they implied that the killer was now out to get Monk, because he
thought they might be on to him??

Yes, I definitely agree. Seems like our MacGuffins have become McMuffins

What's funny, I thought - he'd have to go back and straighten the papers he
knocked off the desk. The re-open of the door had to happen (I mean
predictably).

and Traylor Howard is working out well.
> She's won me over.

Disher was great as the bodyguard I thought. It was funny, and fit his
character, without being overly moronic like he has been lately. The donut
gag was obvious, but in keeping with Monk tradition, as was the rivalry
between him and his psycho-nemesis. The keep-away was a little silly.

Ooh, how bout when Randy picked up the bullet casing - Hello - evidence -
shouldn't you be handling it with a pencil like they do on all of the other
hip cop shows? Then Stot picks up the paper with a glove, but then they all
manhandle it. Umm, fingerprints? Maybe? That's the kind of stuff that irks
me.

But, my biggest pet peeve of the show - next week is the season finale? What
is this, like the 5th or 6th Traylor episode. I think Monk has the shortest
season of anything I've ever seen - 6 epis and then maybe 6 more, after a
huge break. Shalhoub must be doing something right. Seems like last year,
the next new episode was around Father's Day - I remember we were on
vacation. Can anyone confirm the shortness of seasons, and the start/end
weeks?

Good one.

Season 1: 12 Jul 2002-18 Oct 2002 (Eps 1-13)
Season 2: 20 Jun 2003-22 Aug 2003 (Eps 14-22), 16 Jan 2004-5 Mar 2004
(Eps 23-29)
Season 3: 18 Jun 2004-20 Aug 2004 (Eps 30-38), 21 Jan 2005-4 Mar 2005
(Eps 39-45)
Production begins next month for season 4, which begins in June 2005.

You can see from this that they actually do 15-16 ep seasons, with long
breaks in the middle.

Thanks Mr. Forgotten President. They still seem so short to me - maybe it's
the long break and the number of repeats in between. So I was right, it will
begin in June - seems so weird. 3 months on, 3 months off, must be great for
the cast and crew! (yes, I know they film them all in a short period). I
think this has always made it seem to me that USA didn't really have any
faith in the series - like they were keeping the seasons short to opt out in
case it flopped. I thought as the ratings and reviews improved it would
become a little more consistent (like some of those FX shows seem to do). Oh
well, 1 more, and then wait until Father's Day again. At least I've
discovered The Avengers and can occupy my Fridays for a while (M. Appeal!).

Thanks,
Steve

The long breaks allow more time to work on movies instead of trying
to cram a movie in during the typical summer hiatus for network tv.
It's an ideal situation for Tony to be able to do both.
