Have you ever noticed that gods never appear and speak and act for

kinda-sorta, sure, in one of my favourite Heinlein stories ("If This Goes
On -" in "Revolt in 2100").

Wasn't ther some movie with Antonio Banderas as a Catholic missionary
in the future? Not sure if JWs have been in any SF.

Was it "The Body" (2001), <http://imdb.com/title/tt0201485>?
From the reviews, he wasn't a missionary but rather a priest sent by
the Vatican to investigate the unearthing of a tomb containing bones
that might be Jesus'.
