I believe it was in the plot ep of ATS where Angel had mentioned he's been
to a lot of wars, including Vietnam....now, I can understand why he was in
WWII (shanghied by the Navy), but why would he go to Vietnam? Curiousity?
I doubt it was for easy blood, as he had a soul...and he certainly didn't
enlist in the Army, otherwise he'd have been exposed to daylight.
I guess he was just bored & wanted to see for himself what he was reading
about in Life magazine or something..

I think he meant that there had been a lot of wars during his unlife?
Not that he'd attended all of them.

Angel in Vietnam?
I have no memory of that.

The bit goes:

Cut to Angelčs apartment. Angel is filling up a black bag with
weapons.

Doyle: Wow, youčre really going to war here. - I guess you
ah - youčve seen a few in your time, yeah?
Angel: 14, not including Vietnam. They never declared it.

So, he'd "seen" Vietnam, but everyone with a TV set at the time "saw"
that war. Doesn't mean he was actually there.

I always got the impression that Angel was on that sub (in WWII) at the
behest of the US government. Same thing may have sent him to Vietnam.

Angel never says that he went to the Vietnam war, just that he saw it,
and pretty much the whole world watched that one on their TVs.

That would be an oddly pedantic way of answering the question though. I
would say the most obvious way of answering that question would be to
list the wars he's been alive for as that's the way you tend to ask the
question to normal elderly people. Another way of answering it could be
the ones he's personally been in, an odd but understandable way for
someone liek Angel to answer it.

It'd be a weird *** way to list the ones he's actually seen with his
eyes and have the pre tv ones be those he was there for and the post tv
ones be those he saw on television.

vampires tend toward wars and natural and disasters
theyre immune to most weapons
and they can feed freely with little fear of detection

so angelus was probably at more than the boxer rebellion
but the vampires would be posing as civilians caught up in the chaos
rather than as soldiers actually fighting

Technically - not immune, just not *killed* by them.

Are we even certain of that? I mean what happens to a vampire if they
are blown up by a grenade? Do we even know if they grow back body parts?

Wars, especially in the 20th century, have also made extensive use of
incendiary weapons, which vampires are even more vulnerable to than
regular people.

In one episode of Buffy, Riley uses a grenade to take out a vamp nest.
So I imagine if a vamp was close enough to it, he would either be
blown up, or be caught in the flames and burn to dust... If however,
he just got his arm blown off, he wouldn't die, but he'd be a one
armed vampire.
