View Full Version : Where is the next Stargate movie!!
GeekBoy 04-06-2008, 03:13 AM Producer-writer Dean Devlin confirmed today at the San Diego Comic-Con that
he is in talks with MGM Studios to shoot parts two and three to his original
1994 sci-fi film Stargate, which starred Kurt Russell and James Spader.
So would he get Kurt Russell and James Spader back? He said, "Absolutely."
Roland Emmerich? "Roland would absolutely be involved in it, whether or not
he directs it will really depends on how much money I raise to make the
picture." (laughs) "'Stargate' started as a story that Roland wrote in
college called 'Necropol: City of the Dead', which was about a space ship
buried underneath the Great Pyramid of Egypt. I had been working on,
separately, without ever knowing, this thing I always called 'Lawrence of
Arabia on Another Planet.' And when we met, he pitched me Necropol, and I
told him mine, and I said how can we turn these into one story and our
conceptual artist suggested, he said, 'Well, you know what's used a lot in
science fiction and literature, but not that much in movies is the idea of
the transporter. You see it in 'Star Trek' and a little bit in 'The Fly',
but it's really a common device in literature but not used properly in
movies. And that became the link, the Stargate became the link between his
script and my script.
Devlin talked more about the story throughout the three films. "Our first
movie was only trying to tap into Egyptian mythology. The second was to move
into other mythologies. Then the third was to realize that all mythologies
are actually tied together with a common thread that we haven't recognized
before. So if you make it through all three, hopefully we're tying up all
kinds of mysteries on our planet that makes one cohesive story. My hope is
that the series could live as beginning when the third movie ends."

This is all dead fodder to me. STARGATE wasnt a huge hit(77mil). Do Roland
and Dean even talk anymore?

They have already said they would be ignoring the TV shows ... except
of course that due to the complete lack of creativity in Hollyweird
these days they will probably be copying stuff from Stargate, Star
Trek, Battestar Galactica, etc., etc.

Now a Battle Star Galactica movie would rock.

I am surprised they want to make a stargate movie now - but perhaps
someone thinks there is money to be made.

I just caught a bit of a show today: Nanites spread aboard the ship,
rapidly learning, building better versions of them selves whilst eating
the ship ... On Star Trek TNG, 29 years ago *g*
They all steal *g*
What I think is odd is to take a concept which is now establish as one
thing and try to make something else.
Its like making a movie called LOST about a group of people stranded
in... a shopping mall -- eh?

There are of course already some books that follow-on from the original
movie, but I'm not sure how "official" they are.

The entire story that Devlin wanted to pursue is different,
including the nature of the aliens. There are several novels
published that cover the direction he wanted to go.

It could work. I mean look at the last 2 alien VS Predator movies. They wreak
havoc with the story and timeline of the the first 4 Alien(s) movies, and 2
Predator(s) movies.

The first one didn't.
Not seen the second, but in Predator 2, you saw an alien skull on the wall
of their ship. So why wouldn't the preds have been hunting aliens for

That was just a wave to the Alien franchise and a way of saying the predators
were bad *** compared to the aliens. According to all of the Alien movies,
none has ever reached Earth yet, and then the AVP movie shot that idea all to
hell by saying they were here by the thousands at one time .

a) they are depending on fans of the Stargate TV series to get drawn
into something that isn't
b) Russell said he "might" be interested if the story was challenging
(and, likely, if they paid him enough)
c) Spader has said he is/isn't interested, depending, apparently, on
whether he got out of bed before noon.
d) MGM has some issues with cutting its own throat by setting up two
parallel Stargate franchises.

Only as far as the people in "the company" are concerned.
Just because no evidence of aliens on earth exists doesn't mean they were
never here.

No, usenet's name is stupidity, since Comcast isn't my news service
or ISP.
And stupidity's name is apparently Chapman.

Apparently, he thinks he matters. I'm scared, no really, I'm quaking
in my boots, that some masturbating ****** wants people to complain
that I think he's a msturbating ******.
That, or he's just smoking too much dope, and can't get it up to

I think that is because the Stargate wasn't a particularly good movie.
For most of its run, SG-1 was a better story, with better characters and
a whole lot more humor. Maybe the movie geezers have learned something?

True. But some of the SG1 two parters were very well written. The Lost City
was basically a movie was it not? On the DVD it's just one episode.

It was 90 minutes also, but was also a continuance on previous ten years of
story buildup.
Stargate was the begining thus they had to explain a lot of things in the
story. It was also suppose to be the begining of three movies.
Just like Star Wars...we really did not know what the heck was going on
because that movie failed to explain it, and instead filled the movie with
action. It was not till all 6 were made we knew the whole story.
