View Full Version : Arrakean Website
Anyone know what going on with Arrakean Website?
It's: "Sorry we are offline for now. We are working on the skin, graphics,
buttons, organization etc. Please bear with us and we will back soon."
It's been that way for a while: a few weeks.

Long story short?
Hypatia, the acting Super Admin during the absences of Baron, the
owner, and Edric, the former head admin, let in a known Prequelite
troll from Dune Novels named Arnoldo and then threw her politically
correct "by the rules" bullshit at us when we responded as normal
people do to a troll.
When we discussed the situation on another board and Crysknife, also
an admin at the time, tried contacting Baron about the situation by
email through the board, Hypatia intercepted the message and demoted
him to a regular member, accusing him of trying to hijack the board
away from the rightful owner. She started limiting the access
priveleges of other members and admins, even Freakzilla, who for the
most part had stayed out of it all.
A lot of us left or deliberately got ourselves banned. When she read
that we planned to salvage some of the threads from Arrakeen and
repost them over at Jacurutu (www.jacurutu.com!), Freak's new board,
she closed the site down to all access.
She has proven herself a vindictive, petty bitch who cares nothing for
the site she was admin'ing or its members.
The above is my take on the events. Caveat lector.

T: Thank for the info. I figured the Server was running low on money or
something. This whole situation reminds me of the quote: Yes the Baron is
our enemy, but behind him is the hand of the Emperor. In other words, I
wonder if Brian Herbert is behind this in some way.

Nah, it's a free board (InvisionFree), so there's no money issue
involved.
Baron was playing absentee landlord before I joined. Edric was the
head admin until his computer went down; he's pretty much been MIA
since. That left Hypatia as head admin.
The boardware is several years old and no longer supported by the
host. Hypatia doesn't like their new version (Zeta Boards or some such
silliness) and whenever anyone complained she'd say she couldn't move
the board because it was Baron's and she didn't have the authority.
Her idea of fixing the problems is to redesign the theme/"skin".
I don't think the Herberts are behind this, but the troll I mentioned
is a strong and obnoxious supporter of the new books on the DuneNovels
BBS and it was obvious from the start that he had joined Arrakeen just
to cause trouble. Hypatia showed bad judgment in letting him in. If
she'd been paying any attention at all she would have known what kind
of persona he is. She could have asked Freak or Crys or other members
before approving his membership. But no, she knew best. And she
confided after the trouble started that she had hopes of
rehabilitating the troll, like she had made him a pet project or
something.
It's a wry twist on the parable, no? The Good Shepherdess who
sacrifies the flock, the pasture and the manger all for the sake of
one bad sheep.
(Since Arrakeen was the first stopping point in the Zensunni Migration
of the Orthodox Herbertarians after we were kicked off or left Dune
Novels, I'm sure the Herberts aren't exactly displeased to see 'Keen
down and out for the count, you know?)
Anyway, enough of Peyton Place on the Web, huh? :D

T: What a mess. I'm very suspicious when anyone is a vocal supporter of
the new sequel books. I tend to suspect they're being paid by Brian Herbert
or something.

The way this guy goes at it, trying to justify Buttugly Midget Goddess
Norma and Erasmus as Ultimate Friend of Humankind, you have to wonder
if there isn't some "consideration" involved. ;)

I didn't know there was a site.

Essentially there isn't, anymore. ;)
Freakzilla 05-13-2008, 12:39 PM I wouldn't have had a problem with making arnoldo (the troll) a member
but I do have a problem with her enforcing the letter of the law to
protect him and punishing regular members for responding to his flame
bait.
The software sucked anyway, it was a dead end.

Is the Arrakean website permanently closed now? I thought they were looking
for new skins or something.

That's what she claims but I think she screwed it up. You don't have
to close a forum to change the art.
What she's actually doing is holding all our old posts hostage in an
attempt to illicet an appology from us.
(I think I hit "reply to author" before, please disregard.)
F: What she's actually doing is holding all our old posts hostage in an

T: It all reminds me of the old Dune saying: "She who can destroy a thing,
controls a thing." ;-)

SandChigger 05-20-2008, 05:37 AM If she deletes all the posts, she deletes them.
Doing so would just show that we were right about what a small and
vindictive person she is.
I have no intention of trying to go back to Arrakeen even if she does
reopen it. Nor will I ever apologize to the bitch. But I have every
intention of going on and on about it and throwing it up in her face.
She's not the only vindictive one, after all. ;)
