Firefly -Will Firefly Take Flight in a New Special Edition Release?
'Kaylee' Says So!
Cast member says DVDs are on the way

Wow, we got a terrific e-mail from reader John Kelly, who we're
grateful to for sending us the tip. He points us to a YouTube video
(embedded below) that features Firefly's "Kaylee", Jewel Staite
(currently seen on Stargate: Atlantis), answering questions at the
"Supanova" Convention held last weekend (March 29-30) in Melbourne,
Australia. She's talking about the possibility of whether a new story
could ever be done for Firefly, picking up after the events of the
feature film Serenity. She says that she thinks the door is still open
to it, and establishes that "if they called I would be there in a
heartbeat". She points out that there is still a lot of demand for the
show, and that the studio recognizes it. In the process she dropped
this bombshell:
"I just heard that they're re-releasing Firefly, a special
edition of Firefly in a box set. They actually asked me if I was able
to come down to L.A. and do a commentary in the Spring at some point.
So I think that would be fun."
Nice! The existing Firefly DVD set continues to be a good seller, and
has a good number of extras. But that wouldn't stop many fans, myself
included, from double-dipping on a special edition release if it had
enough new goodies on it, and at the right price.

Again? They already did a Collector's Edition for Serenity with extra
features and commentary. If they do yet another special edition for
Firefly, we will have four DVDs -- two for the film and two for the
series with no new episodes. I'd much rather see them doing a new
movie or more episodes (I don't care if it's direct to DVD, I'll buy
it if it's a new story) or another series or movie set in the Firefly
universe.

Hah, hah, hah. Mine is an evil laugh."

LAB Enterprises 04-08-2008, 08:42 AM I agree, though I have been thinking about getting a second copy of the
series for
myself to keep in my bedroom (my original set is in my office) so I can
watch both
places. Now I'll wait and get the new edition.
Personally, I only watch the special features once usually (okay, I admit
the one that
mentions my site I've watched more often than any other feature lol), but
will definitely
show my support for the show and buy a new set.

They better be Blu-Rays - no reason to re-release standard DVD's. But
there is a market for the episodes in HD.

They are Blu-Ray: here's confirmation from TVShowsonDVD.com:

LAB Enterprises 04-09-2008, 09:55 AM Well drats! Guess I'll just get a second regular set for myself then since I
have no plan to get blu-ray.
Unless blu-ray plays on computer dvd drives? Anyone know?

They won't play on your current DVD drive, but they'll probably play on
your next computer.
