I was poking around the tubes and I found out that they were planing a
Firefly novel series but it got canceled. However, the author they had
hired to do the novels finished the first one anyway and published it on
his website for free. It isn't exactly new news, but I was wondering if
any of you had heard of it. I just finished reading it and it isn't bad.

The author Steven Brust wasn't actually hired to do a novel series, he
essentially wrote the thing because he wanted to, then sent it to the
Firefly people for consideration to publish it. Brust is the author of a
long running fantasy series (the Taltos series) which all Firefly fans
would probably like, its got a similar sense of humour in the dialogue.
The novels in the series are all standalone although it is probably
preferable to read them in order.

Published order, not internal order. The books, especially the early ones,
do have a tendency to jump back and forth in time, in a very
stream-of-consciousness way.

I don't care, I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me
Take me out to the black, tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land, boil the sea, you can't take the sky from me

That did it! Plonk James Stephenson, he's on the list.
