I don't want to read the prequels. I hate KJAs work in other things.

But part of me wants to read the two sequels... would I have to read
the prequels to get the full affect, or should I just skip the lot?

I read most of the prequels. Dreadful. I read 1.5 of the two sequels.
Really dreadful. But, to answer your question, you don't have to read
the prequels to enjoy/understand the sequels, but it would be useful, as
the Gruesome Twosome, Herbert and Anderson, include some of their puke
inducing characters/concepts from the prequels, into the sequels/ It is
inexplicable as it is obvious that Frank Herbert never intended this
drek to be a part of his story, IMO. If by "Full Affect" you mean Heart
Palpitations and Banging your Head against Concrete Walls, trying to
damage the brain cells that retain memories of the prequels/sequels,
then definitely.....

Quite right too. They're shite. All of them.

You are clearly a man of taste and good judgement. I like you.

Which part, though? My arse once wanted to read them, but I said to it
"no, arse! You're not reading them, and that's that. Behave yourself".
Sometimes bodily parts can be so argumentative and uncooperative. You've
got to take control.

Definitely. The prequels would produce a gradually increasing a(e)ffect
of general unease eventually leading to uncontrollable spasms and
projectile vomiting. The sequels would provide the killer blow,
resulting in insanity and a state not unlike living death.

It all really depends on whether masochism is a dominant part of your
personality.

So continue to avoid the prequels and avoid the new sequels. Got it.

Good man. Very wise. The furniture, walls and ceilings of your abode are
now in no danger from vomit encrustation. Just make sure that there's
still not a part of you that wants to read the two sequels, though. If
there is, amputate immediately. This has been a public health
announcement. Thank you.

Nowadays, thanks to KJA/BH, a proper Dune fan's kosherness can be
gauged by his/her extreme hatred of KJA/BH. If you can possibly
contain yourself and not fall prey to the curiosity and the hope, give
the KJA/BH books a miss. They are incredibly crap and this is apparent
very readily as soon as you even start reading their drivel. Speaking
personally, I read House Atreides and a fraction of House Harkonnen
before devoutly resolving never to read anything by these two, ever. I
hear the rest of the books have progressively driven people insane, so
unspeakably **** they are*.

Raveem.

* The real shoddiness of the BH/KJA really is impossible to convey
without resorting to a continuous stream of expletives.
