Amazon is now taking pre-orders for the Season 2 DVD box set.
The list price for standard DVD is $39.99, but Amazon is offering them
for $25.99. The blu-ray set lists for $69.99 and is being offered for
$48.95.
The official release date is August 26.
The contents of the set has not been released. Obviously, the 11-episode
Generations arc will be included, and it is likely that it will contain
most of the standard DVD special features, such deleted scenes,
commentaries, "making of" featurettes, etc.
The set is rumored to include the originally-planned ending to the
volume and some of the online media, such as the Takezo Kensai biopic.
It's a bit disappointing (much like S2 in general). You would think
that, after all the complaints about the lack of extras on the S1 box
set, TPTB would get a clue and pack this box set with a lot of
additional features.
Even worse, they still expect us to pay $40.00 to get only 4 discs. The
S1 box contained 7 discs and currently costs the same price (although,
admittedly, it lists for $59.99 at Amazon). That means that, if you were
to buy them at list price, S1 would be $8.57 per disc, while S2 is
$10.00. At the discounted prices, S2 is *still* more expensive on a
per-disc basis ($5.71 for S1 vs $6.49 for S2).
