I'm a libertarian. I've voted straight LP for president for about 15
years, but this time I'm voting for Obama. I'm ticked off that he
weaseled out on telecom immunity, though.

As am I.
But the real tests come after he is elected, if he is.
I should add that I don't plan to vote for him. But I hope he wins.

Obama has voted straight ultra leftist, against America,
against Americans, and against capitalism, but is a man
of fortunately few principles, so will probably act
differently according to which electorate he has to
please. Considering the immense and lasting damage done
by Nixon, I conjecture that a fake Democrat will
probably cause less havoc than a fake Republican.
McCain is at best a new Nixon, Obama at worst a new
Carter. The damage done by Carter was transient.

What's your beef with Nixon, Jim? Pulling out of Vietnam?

Smashing capitalism in the United States.

Which of his actions did this?

Offhand, I would say imposing wage and price controls could be
considered a good step in that direction.

That is the most obvious thing, but it's hard to tell what James will
find the most noxious. I wanted to make sure it wasn't the EPA, OSHA,
the EITC, or removing the last vestiges of the gold standard.

Exactly so. Similarly McCain's cap and trade is a large
step towards theocratic socialism and state religion.
To meet projected demand over the next two decades,
America must build about 1600 new power stations. McCain
differentiates himself from the lunatic greenies by
proposing to build ...
...
.....
- dum dum dum dum dum -
.....
...
45 new nuclear reactors over the next two
decades
Cap and trade presumably mean no more coal and natural
gas power stations, and in any case to meet the oil
crisis, we need to convert natural gas and coal into
oil, which means we really need to stop building new
coal and natural gas power stations and replace existing
coal and gas power stations with nuclear or concentrated
solar thermal power stations.
Large scale concentrated solar thermal (vast fields of
mirrors focussing sunlight on a central boiler) is
competitive right now in hot deserts, so there is a mad
rush to build a lot of them, and, guess what, surprise,
surprise, the greenies whipped out all their nuclear
power objections, did a search and replace substituting
solar for nuclear, and are now obstructing to large
scale solar power - while still being entirely in favor
of small scale solar power, so long as it still small
enough that it cannot make a difference.
Obama says he is also in favor of a cap and trade
system, but his "cap and trade" system is 100% auction -
in other words, a pigovian carbon tax, which involves
considerably fewer bureaucrats wandering around checking
everyone for evil carbon emission. Further, a carbon
tax will be politically impossible to make very high,
since it falls directly on the poor, and the poor can
see it falling on them, will blame the tax collectors,
whereas with McCain's cap and trade, capitalism will
doubtless be blamed for the fact that capitalism has
mysteriously ceased to function. With McCain's system,
the poor will blame the evil oil companies, and demand
that the evil bloated capitalists be smacked twice as
hard.
