Confirmed Bejeweled not working

Kim

Hi Guys,

Has anyone else had an issue with the bejeweled game not working? My install just does nothing when you click on it, the green progress bar is at 100% from the second you go to it, but there is nothing you can do, and it never loads.

The other games I have tested seem to be working perfectly, just that one.

Any thoughts on what it might be?

Thanks very much

Kim, some quick thoughts...

- Are you using XenPorta or other portal?

- Bejeweled is an IPB game versus the others are are v3A formatted games. Have you tried any Mochi games and are they working?

Hey Kevin!

No, no portals, or any other mods, other than - Block 8 Spam service, and The Happy place (smilies).

Do you have to have a paid account for the Mochi games? I am wary of them for some reason, I have the impression it is an advertising medium, Plus I spent ages getting through all the levels of one of their games only to find it didn't save the score :dead:

I have a heap of IPB games, and can get lots more with my Life time VIP membership to IBParcade, I was intending to just use those, hopefully I still can.

The bejewled I am referring to is the one that is pre-installed in the arcade, not a different version, just to clarify

Thanks for your help Kevin!

I don't have "Block 8 Spam" service installed on any of my test sites but I do have The Happy Place installed on a few (we're using it here, for example). Mind linking me to the "Block 8 Spam" service? I'll install it on one of my sites to see if I can recreate it. If you want, shoot me a PM PC with the URL of the site you're working on and I'll head over to take a look to see if I spot anything.

Nope, Mochi is free for publishers. It being an advertising medium though, that one is a little tougher to respond to because it is both a good thing & a bad thing. It is a good thing because it offers sites access to thousands of free & legal arcade games while earning a few pennies (like Adsense) but the 'price' is that ads that are displayed (most games have them just as the game loads; some of the more annoying ones have them between levels). Sites that don't mind the murky grey waters of using IPB games from various place likely won't be interested in the Mochi games but sites that want easy access to free & legal games and/or want to try & earn some revenue from their arcade installations would be.

You will be able to. IPB game compatibility is there, we just need to see what is going on with your site. Before it was XenPorta that was the #1 issue of IPB games having issues (something that is still not resolved mostly because I got tired of having to work on a new fix every time a new version of XenPorta was released that broke the last fix) but it sounds like there may be something else now for some people.

Hey Kevin,

Thanks for the comprehensive answers

Here is the Block 8 link http://spam-service.block8.co.uk/

Must be frustrating with the XenPorta issue! sorry to hear it.

I would love to you take a look if you don't mind will PC you with the details and an Admin log in

Thanks again so much!

I submitted my email to the Block 8 site, waiting to hear back from. Seeing how it is an XF only service for now I'm surprised I don't recall coming across them before.

I took at a look at the site you sent via PC, thanks. The problem seems to be that is not finding the additional files needed for the game. (For others reading this that might be having the same problem, if you use Chrome turn on the Developer Tools, click the Network tab, and then view a site to what files are being requested on a page and what the status of the request is. Anything is red is a bad thing.)

Before I over-think it, can you verify that {xf folder}/data/games/0/bejeweled/gamedata/bejeweled exists as a folder on your server and contains bejeweled.txt & bejeweled.xml?

Oooo you could be onto something, that folder does not exist, in fact the only folder in the data directory is the attachments folder.

Is it something that is auto created on install?

Are you sure there isn't at least a /data/games/0 folder? It is finding the game's .swf file but not the extra files for it. Weird.

Yes, the installer installs several demo games and as part of the game installation it creates the folders.

OH gosh!!! LOL

So Sorry Kevin, I have several sites as subdomains on the one hosting account and I was looking at the wrong one >_<

That one has got a games folder/0 but no sub folders, and I can't see those files

Let me experiment a bit... I'm seeing some inconsistencies between two my sites & their folder structures. I think I need to do a fresh install on a site with no existing folders as opposed to an upgrade.

I'll be back...

Short version... disregard the folder structure, looks like the demo IPB game installed may be at fault.

For others reading... I sent Kim a PC response to try something, will follow-up after some sleep & thought.

[ Moving thread to Bugs ]

Moving thread to the Bugs forum as it appears that as of 0.0.9 the installer needs to be tweaked for the demo IPB game does not install the misc. gamedata folder files. Installing the game after installation using the 'Import' function works fine.

Thanks, Kim, for reporting & helping us work through what the issue was.

This isn't working on my site either (just for the record). You're not alone Kim.

Finally gave up though and reverted back to 0.08

Only the demo IPB game is not working, installing IPB games after installation works. ;) Reverting to an old version because of one game that comes as demo is a bit of a over-reaction.

My comment is related "generally" (in part) to the issue I was having, but as noted the demo version is also not working. Wondering if there could be "in part" a common factor (however small)

xfrocks -- On a fresh install of 0.0.9, the files bejeweled.txt, bejeweled.xml, & v32game.txt are ending up in {xf}/internal_date instead of {xf}/data/games/0.

IIRC, the files are copied to internal_data before being added by the install script (have to be done because the data writer will delete the file after a successful insert). I will do a fresh install in the evening and report back.

Just to confirm this isn't working on a site of mine either, which never had the arcade installed before.

Game loads to 100%, but does not go any further as Kim mentioned previously.

Glad it wasn't just me!

Just wanted to mention in my case we DO have XenPorta installed.

Is there anything I need to change for IPB game compatibility?
