So I think I'm going to take plunge and upgrade both my wife & I to the Samsung S7 Edge phones. :wideeyed:

Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge | Samsung US

Right now I'm using an S5, Mrs. Kevin is using an S3, and another family member is using an old Motorola Droid. The plan in my head at the moment is to switch the S3 & S5 to S7 Edge and hand down the S5 to the person with the Moto. I'm not sure what cases to get yet since with the Galaxy series I really like the Otterbox cases and both the S3 & S5 are in Otterbox's but using a heavy case like that with the Edge is a concern.

Anybody have an S7 or S7 Edge yet? Likes/dislikes? What case did you end up going with? :iphone:

The phones have been ordered and, hopefully, will be here today. Yay! :D UPS tried delivering yesterday but nobody was home. Mrs. Kevin picked out a new Otterbox Symmetry case with a color scheme to her liking while I went with basic colors; both of the S7 Edge phones were ordered in silver. I would have have gone for the "Pink Gold" version for Mrs. Kevin but apparently the color choice is not available here in the States yet.

Interestingly I learned today that Samsung is doing their promo again for a free Samsung Gear VR so now I'm trying to find out I can get in on it.

For the past couple of days my battery life has been miserable; you could actually watch within minutes the battery being drained even though it was plugged in.

Turns out it wasn't the phone itself but a bad app. I did indeed end up getting a Samsung Gear VR headset and as part of it some Samsung apps and some Oculus apps get installed (the Samsung Gear VR is a collaboration between Samsung and Oculus). One of the recent updates to those apps went bad and was causing the phone to be in a loop of trying to update the app causing the battery drain.

What finally worked for me to fix it was first uninstall all of the Samsung VR apps and all of the Oculus apps. Even after doing this though the "Gear VR Service" was still shown in the Application Manager and was eating my battery. From the 'More' link I did an Uninstall which reverted the currently installed 2.5.x version of the service back to the 2.4.04 version. After that I then re-installed the various Samsung VR apps and Oculus apps. After that the Samsung VR Service remained as 2.4.04, all of the varous apps were up & running, the headset still worked, and no more battery drain! Yay! :jiggy:

I'll have to keep an eye out now in case the Gear VR Service gets auto-updated on its own but for now everything is back to running solid.
