In The Whispers, someone or something -- is manipulating the ones we love most to accomplish the unthinkable. An unseen alien force has figured this human weakness out. They have invaded earth and are using our most unlikely resource to achieve world domination – our children.

While going through new shows for this year I came across the tidbit that The Whispers is is based on the Ray Bradbury short story Zero Hour from The Illustrated Man. The Wikipedia description for Zero Hour is "Children across the country are deeply involved in an exciting game they call 'Invasion.' Their parents think of it as harmless fun until the invasion actually occurs."

I haven't come across a premiere date yet though it is still slated for the 2014-2015 season.

... and it's over & done after 1 season. Announced this week by ABC that they've officially cancelled the show after already letting the contracts for the actors expire during the summer.
