What I'd Like to See.

Okay, now that we're at (for a lot of us) 0.0.7 and games are pretty much working as intended, I've been able to play a lot and have some thoughts. Please note that this is NOT taking into consideration all the things which are already being worked on and is just my list.

  1. When a game finishes, please go back to the game screen, not the Arcade main screen. Reason for this is with short games such as Power Driver and Canabalt it's a real pain to have to go back into it when you should be able to just start a new game.
  2. Sidebar with information such as your best score and the top score.
  3. Game rating system, whether this is 1-5 stars or 1-10.
  4. Reporting system with ability to specify what is being reported. Things like scoring issue, copyright infringement or broken game could be reported.
  5. Ability to order games in various ways, whether this is top rated or most played. Even alphabetical, if you so desire.
  6. Ability of Admin to change scores.
  7. Leaderboard.
  8. Tournaments.
  9. Auto install from a tar/zip file!
I know many of these have been said already, but I think you guys have the games pretty much working and I wanted to reiterate. It still plays wonderfully right now, so nice job guys!
 
That's all I would love to see in XFA plus many other things, like Comments on games, display scores on game pages etc.

I agree with all of these....but #6. Do you mean like score pruning?

I would like to see a list of people in the arcade along the top of the arcade main screen, kind of like v3arcade (I think v3a had that). With the recent session improvements, this might be possible with a few template edits.

And yes, a huge KUDO's for Kevin for the leaps and bounds he has made with the arcade. Way to go!

I don't think so.. but using v3arcade previously, there were a lot of requests from the game players that their score wasn't saved for some reason, and they wanted me to edit and update the score manually. So I did that with mysql database.
 
Really? I wouldn't think that would be something worth bothering an admin about.

I would just tell them to play it again. It's not a jackpot malfunction. :D

yeah that happened many times and I was really very upset with that kind of requests, but if I don't do that they becomes angry :D
 
I had several times when a bug allowed scores from one game to be saved on another. Being able to manipulate scores would have fixed this.
 
For everybody in general.... if you post suggestions as individual threads then you have a better chance of it going on the To Do list. :coffee:

I've been considering that one myself. In my head what I'm seeing is after playing a game that your score/results are shown to you in a pop-up overlay, you click a button to acknowledge the results, and then go back to the game URL.

I've been resisting this one because of the screen real estate. I figured that might be something that could be added at some point in some form.

XF Rocks actually started adding some code in the base package but it is not in a state to be used yet. Don't know if there is enough there to build upon or if it'd be better to start with new code.

If we go down that route, personally I'd prefer then that XFA uses as much of existing XF 'Report' functionality as possible rather than building a new system from scratch. For a quickie interim solution, you've got me wondering now what it would take to add XF's 'Report' link to the game bit. HHmm.....

Talking out loud... right now the category tabs shows the games in alphabetical order, the 'New' tab shows in them in reverse order by game ID, while the 'All' tab is random. Are you thinking about an option to sort the tabs in a specified way (eg: the user can sort them ala clicking on a column header) or an ACP to pre-sort them or something else?

Thinking out loud... a little more work involved behind the scenes to change the score besides just the display entry since changing the score might also affect other things like who is the game champion.

I don't know what it looks like, but I'd like to see a clean interface. I modded the v3alternative layout to look like this and it worked really well.

I'm also not liking the current interface of arcade but in reality its too early to ask for changing it, first we should have all basic functionality and feature that are must and then we can design its interface.
 
I would give my left nut for Mochi integration.

Not that that's a big deal, I've been married 18 years and I hardly use it anyway.
